Madhoo - Biography

Madhoo, made an impression in the nineties’ hits like Roja and Phool Aur Kante, but swapped movies for marriage and will be making a come back. Madhoo Born on 26th March 1972, Madhoo Raghunath Malini is the daughter of Raghunath, actress Hema Malini’s brother and Renuka. Her mother died of cancer when Madhoo was all of thirteen. Her aunt Hema Malini was her role model. Madhoo is trained in Bharatnatyam and also studied acting at the Roshan Taneja’s School of Acting. She has acted in Malayalam, Tamil, Hindi and Kannada movies.  She is married to an industrialist Anand Shah and has two daughters Ameya and Kela. Roja Madhoo was launched in a Malayalam movie Ottayal Pattalam in 1990. In 1991, she was chosen to be part of the Tamil movie K.Balachander’s Azhagan. She played Ajay Devgan’s love interest in his debut Phool Aur Kaante in 1991. The movie was a big hit.        In 1992, the Tamil movie Mani Rathnam’s Roja was released and it became one of the biggest hits ever. She is best remembered for her role as Roja, a bride whose husband is abducted by militants in Kashmir. She acted in several movies that didn’t recreate the Roja success, like Zaalim (1994), Return of the Jewel Thief (1996), Udaan (1997) and Mulaqat (2002). The Murderer      Madhoo will be seen in the 2009 release The Murderer that is also the debut of Mithun Chakraborthy’s son Mimoh.
