Sunil Dutt Biography
Sunil Dutt is a legendary Bollywood actor.

<br />Balraj Dutt (who later came to be known as Sunil Dutt) was born on on 6 June 1929 in the village Khurd, in the Jhelum District of Punjab in Pakistan, and was brought up in a village Mandoli in the Yamunanagar district of Haryana. He later joined Jai Hind College in Mumbai.
<br /> <br />On 11 March 1958 he married actress Nargis who was his co-star in the 1957 film, Mother India. The couple had three children -Sanjay Dutt, Priya Dutt, and Namrata Dutt (Anju).

</span><br />Sunil was a Cabinet Minister in the Manmohan Singh government for Youth Affairs and Sports. He joined Congress in 1984 and became a Member of Parliament later. In 1982, he held the position of Sheriff of Mumbai.

<br />After working as an announcer of the Hindi Radio channel, Radio Ceylon, he made his debut film in 1955, Railway Platform. The actor was also seen as Nargis' son in the superhit film Mother India (1957). He has worked with director B.R. Chopra in some of the hit films like Gumraah (1963), Waqt (1965), and Hamraaz (1967). From 1960 to 1970 he has given several hits like Sadhna (1958), Sujata (1959), Mujhe Jeene Do (1963), Khandaan (1965), and Padosan (1967). Writer Aghajani Kashmeri is Sunil's best friend and some of his movies like Ghazal, Mujhe Jeene Do, and Yeh Raaste Hain Pyar Ke are written by him.
<br /> <br />In 1964 he appeared in a film, Yaadein, which led to the entry of his name in the Guinness Book of World Records in the Fewest Actors in a Narrative Film category. The actor produced the film named Man Ka Meet (1968) and cast brother Som Dutt in the lead role. He also directed and acted in a flop film, Reshma Aur Shera (1971). After this flop flick he came up with hits like Pran Jaye Par Vachan Na Jaye (1974), Nagin (1976), Jaani Dushman (1979), and Shaan (1980). He has also acted in some of the Punjabi movies like Man Jeete Jag Jeet (1973), Dukh Bhanjan Tera Naam (1974), and Sat Sri Akal (1977).
<br /> <br />He received the Filmfare Best Actor Award for films like Khandaan and Mujhe Jeene Do. He was also honored with the Padma Shri award, and Lifetime Achievement Award from Filmfare, Star Screen and Zee Cine. Dadasaheb Phalke Academy honored him with Phalke Ratna Award in 2005.
<br /> <br />Sunil directed his son Sanjay's debut film Rocky. This film was a huge success but at the same time brought the sad news of Nargis' death due to cancer. Parampara (1992) and Kshatriya (1993) were among his last releases and after a few years he appeared in Munnabhai M.B.B.S. (2003) starring Sanjay Dutt. This was Sunil's last film.

<br />Sunil Dutt died on 25 May 2005 after a heart attack at Bandra, Mumbai.<br />
